Bioresorbable pressure sensors protected with thermally grown silicon dioxide for the monitoring of chronic diseases and healing processes
The paper proposes the use of bioresorbable sensors protected with thermally grown silicon dioxide for monitoring pressures in areas like the skull, eye, and blood vessels. Normally, devices used to measure these pressures need to be surgically removed after a certain period, increasing infection risks, care costs, and patient discomfort. Bioresorbable sensors, on the other hand, dissolve in the body over time, avoiding these issues. However, existing sensors don’t last long enough for many medical needs. These modified bioresorbable sensors are designed to last up to ten times longer than previous versions. Multiple tests confirmed that the materials are safely biodegrade in the body and are compatible with MRI scans. This research sets a foundation for making long-lasting, dissolvable pressure monitors ready for real-world use.
