Estimation of the Ear Canal Displacement Field due to In-Ear Device
Insertion Using a Registration Method on a Human-Like Artificial Ear
This paper examines the impact of passive and active in-ear devices (IEDs) on ear canal comfort by studying the mechanical pressure they exert on ear phantom canal walls. The focus is on validating a method using medical imaging to estimate the displacement field of the ear canal caused by IED insertion. Using a human-like artificial ear model and custom-molded IEDs, computed tomography imaging, and a registration method, the study successfully measures displacement with high accuracy. Results indicate potential application of this method with magnetic resonance imaging for future studies on human ear canals.
